Extensions Care Guide

  • Brush your hair thoroughly multiple times per day.
  • Separate rows brushing one row at a time.
  • With your free hand, keep pressure at the base of your extensions to eliminate necessary tension + pulling while you brush.
  • Always start brushing at the ends of your extensions, working your way up to the base to avoid new tangles from forming.
  • Use a professional extension brush or “wet brush” when brushing the hair.
  • Be careful to not brush over the top of your wefts! Doing so will cause damage to the extensions + shorten the life of your extensions.

Brushing

  • Brush thoroughly before washing.
  • You may have to shampoo twice to get enough lather to cleans around your rows.
  • Gently wash between rows + rinse thoroughly. If you have multiple rows you may find it helpful to clip the top row(s) up; cleans and rinse around the bottom row first then repeat with the above row.
  • Do NOT vigorously shampoo your extensions/wefts! Cleansing in a gentle downward motion will keep your true hairs integrity intact.
  • Gently towel dry and use Mr Smith’s Leave In Conditioner + Serum mixed together for hydration, heat protection, and UVA + UVB protection.
  • Do NOT wrap your hair in a towel on top of your head, this will cause unnecessary tension + pulling on the front beads.
  • Use a moisturizing conditioning mask once a week to keep your extensions hydrated and at their best!

Washing

  • After washing, apply your styling products before combing through. Air drying your hair as much as possible is always best!
  • Always use a heat protectant before styling.
  • Make sure hair is 100% dry before applying hot tools.
  • The temperature on styling tools should be no higher than 325 degrees.
  • Once your leave in and serum are applied, comb through hair with a pic, large tooth comb, or wet brush following the brushing instructions above.

Styling

  • Always use professional sulfate + paraben free products.
  • Using your recommended hair serum twice per day will help maintain the moisture your extensions need.
  • Avoid repair or strengthening products on you’re extensions!

Products

  • Always brush before bedtime.
  • Braid your hair or secure with a low bun before sleep to avoid matting + unnecessary tangles.
  • Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase is recommended.

Sleeping

  • After any water event you will want to use a clarifying shampoo to remove all chlorine, chemicals, or mineral build up on the hair. This will prevent your extensions from drying out. Follow up the clarifying shampoo with a hydrating masque.
  • Before swimming wet your hair and apply a leave in conditioner. This help to prevent dryness + discoloration caused by minerals found in pools + oceans. It is best to put your hair in a braid, ponytail, or bun before swimming.
  • Rinse immediately after swimming.

Swimming, Lake + Beach Experiences

  • Avoid chemical sunscreens on your face + body that have Avobenzone + Octocrylene. These ingredients can turn your extensions pink or orange when the extensions touch your face or body. Mineral sunscreen doesn’t contain these ingredients + wont affect your extensions.

Sunscreen

  • Invisible Bead Extensions® requires maintenance appointments every 6-10 weeks depending on your natural hair texture and integrity.
  • Mark Barrington/Shrink Link extensions (whatever you prefer) requires 8-12 weeks for maintenance appointments.
  • On average, extension hair will last 8-14 months dependent on proper come care.
